This weekend was Old Bay Mid-Atlantic Coast Championships (grand prix event) at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, Maryland. We had 11 V15's show up for the event to sail in two of the most incredible days I have ever seen. Sunny skies, 10-15 knots of breeze both days, and 5 solid races on the Chesapeake Bay.

Majority of the fleet were local sailors like V15 Designer, Bob Ames, new fleet members Tara & Keith Carew and Alon Finklstein. We also had a a few out of towners...St Mary's Assistant Coach Geoff Becker, St Mary's Sailors Melissa Deveney, Dave Johnson and Dave Perkowski & Chelsea Kehne, and all the way from Houston, Texas, Matt Rogers and Heidi Prather who received the travelled the furthest award from Annapolis Performance Sailing.

Saturday started off a solid 15 knots of breeze in the first race which made for quite a warm up. By the time the second race started the nuclear puffs were rolling out of the severn river, a few of the fleet members decided to head in and let the top of the fleet battle out the two remaining races (in which the breeze dropped down to 10 for the third race). After three races on Saturday Matt Rogers & Heidi Prather from Houston were dominating the fleet with a 1-2-1 with Geoff Becker & Melissa Deveney close at their heels with a 2-1-3. Dave Perkowski, Tara Carew, and Dave Johnson were just a few points behind.

Sunday turned out to be a another perfect day of great breeze and the stellar race committee was able to complete two races, allowing Geoff Becker to finish the day with two bullets and Alon Finklestein and Elyse had two second place victories. Geoff Becker & Melissa Deveney locked up first place, Matt Rogers and Heidi Prather placed second and Dave Perkowski and Chelsea Kehne finished third in the Mid-Atlantic Coast Champs. With Tara Carew taking the Top Women's Skipper award! Trophies were provided by SSA and Annapolis Performance Sailing.

Thanks to SSA, Rick Harris, Michael Higgins, John Potter, Renee Mehl and John Maloney from Annapolis Performance Sailing, this years Old Bay Mid-Atlantic Coasts was a great success. With our fleet growing at the pace it is, this event can only get more participation each year! Our next event is July 21-22, I hope to see you there.
