Strong Breeze of 20 to 27 knots marked the Texas Elissa V15 Grand Prix at the Houston Yacht Club in late April. On Sunday, in the strongest breeze of the weekend, many of the 'big boat' fleets opted out of racing with good reason; torn sails were commonplace, with one de-masted boat and another sinking the day before. This action only gets the V15 fleet in Texas more pumped to race, and the racing was as exciting as it can get in daylight (these are the guys that night race during winter cold fronts). Despite the mayham in the big boat classes there was not a single equipment breakdown in the V15 class, except for one broken nose. In these extreme conditions, when other fleets were playing 'Survivor', the Texas V15 fleet was racing hard. After seven races on Saturday, only 6 points seperated first and fourth place. Ryan Glaze and Jake Scott scored two bullets on Sunday to win the event.

The Texas fleet is looking forward to hosting the V15 National Championship in October, 2001. The fast growing Texas fleet at Houston Yacht Club, founded in 1998, now has 34 boats and wants to have 50 by the Nationals. They promise excellent racing conditions in October with bands and parties all weekend long.
